The Flint Hills Resource Terminal at 2209 Childs Road, along the river has submitted a proposal for site plan review to the City about raising the flood berm they currently have, and adding a steel sheet barrier where a berm isn't possible.
The photo at left shows where the steel piles will be. If you look at the termination of the pipes to the left of the photo, you can see that there is currently a 6 foot high chain link fence at this location. This fence would be replaced by a 4 foot high steel pile structure. The proposed structure will be similar to the piling at Holman Field, but less than half the height.
They have submitted plans to show how they will control erosion and runoff during the construction of the elevated berm. They will be bringing in material to raise the elevation.
They will be meeting with City staff for the review on March 1.
