Public Hearing Upcoming on Waste Treatment Plant

The Metropolitan Council is holding a public hearing on its Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant Rehabilitation and Facilities Improvement Project Draft Facility Plan (that's quite a title, don't you think??!). This plan was developed by the Met Council's Environmental Services Division. The public hearing is Tuesday January 27 at 3p. The hearing will be at the Met Council Chambers, 390 N. Robert St. in St. Paul.

It looks at alternatives for each facility and system, including keeping things as they are. Major recommended capital improvements include:
  • installation of an on-site central standby power facility using diesel generators;
  • rehabilitation of in-plant power distribution system, process control system, and plant water systems;
  • rehabilitation of sludge storage tanks and several other structural components of the plant;
  • process enhancements for the fluidized -bed  incineration system;
  • replacement of sludge collection equipment and other process equipment;
  • decommissioning or recycling of buildings that are no longer used for their original process functions.
Copies of the draft plan are available for review now at the SunRay branch library, 2105 Wilson. (Other locations are available around the twin cities - this is the location in our area...)

You can attend the public meeting to submit comments or send them in no later than February 6, 2009 to:
