Encourage Kids in Science

The Association of Multicultural Scientists (AMS) is a University of Minnesota campus organization dedicated to improving the representation of minority scientists with the UM system. We understand the desire to pursue a scientific career is instilled early in a child's development. To initiate this, we would like to introduce the possibilities of scientific careers, while engaging children in scientific based experiments.

The 2009 AMS STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Academy will target elementary and middle school students interested in science. The event will consist of entertaining experimental demonstrations, a brief lunch break along with a visual presentation about various scientific careers and professionals. We hope the students will have fun learning scientific concepts while being instructed by university students.

Event will be held May 30, 2009 from 10a to 1p
Event will be held at 2-101 Nils Hasselmo Hall, UM-TC East bank campus
Cost is FREE with lunch provided but space is limited!!
Pre-registration is open until May 15th by contacting Michael Underwood (under039@umn.edu) or 612-804-0114, or Marian Rodriguez (rodri242@umn.edu)
